Power employees and pensioners in Ludhiana, Punjab, have temporarily halted their 'work-to-rule' protest after a meeting with Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) management on April 30. The management, led by CMD Dr. Basant Garg, promised to address various pending demands by May 15. The protest, which had been ongoing for nearly a month, intensified following a confrontation during a meeting with the power minister on April 16. Union representatives from several organizations participated in the discussions, highlighting issues such as the implementation of PSPCL pay scales for employees hired after July 17, 2020, and financial matters related to junior engineers. They also opposed a proposal to recruit around 100 employees through PESCO, which they deemed anti-employee. The management agreed to withdraw this proposal and address some cadre-related issues immediately. While the protest is suspended until May 20, union leaders warned that if their demands are not met, they will resume protests on May 21, including a state-level dharna outside the chief minister's residence on May 24 and a two-day strike on June 16 and 17.
