On Sunday morning, a severe thunderstorm hit Ludhiana, Punjab, India, around 7 am, leading to a 10-hour power outage that affected approximately 40 feeders operated by the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL). According to officials, the storm caused significant damage to the electricity infrastructure, particularly around the 66-kV and 220-kV networks, as heavy winds brought down trees and branches onto power lines. Power restoration began between 12-1 pm, but ongoing repair work continued throughout the day due to the complexity of the damage and a shortage of field staff, exacerbated by an indefinite strike by complaint handling bike (CHB) employees. PSPCL chief engineer Jagdev Singh Hans indicated that it might take several days to fully restore the affected infrastructure. Residents reported repeated voltage fluctuations and outages that hindered daily activities, with some areas still facing disruptions late into the afternoon. Restoration teams were deployed across the city to address the issues, but the strike and staff shortages posed additional challenges.
