Sunil Gavaskar, the legendary Indian cricketer, has called for the inclusion of 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in the upcoming T20I series against Ireland. Sooryavanshi, who recently shone in the IPL 2026 with a remarkable total of 776 runs, earned the Orange Cap as the tournament's top scorer while playing for Rajasthan Royals. Gavaskar believes that despite the presence of established players like Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson, Sooryavanshi deserves a chance to showcase his talent. He suggested that the team management should consider rotating the current opening pair to allow Sooryavanshi to play. In a related development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has arranged for Sooryavanshi's father to join him in Sri Lanka, where he is currently with the India ‘A' team for a 50-over tri-series starting on June 9. This arrangement aims to help the young prodigy acclimatize to the new environment. Sooryavanshi's rapid rise follows his impressive performances in both the IPL and the U19 World Cup, indicating a promising future for the young cricketer.
