In response to significant student outrage over afternoon examinations during extreme heat, Nagpur University has announced that all summer examinations will be held exclusively in the morning shift from next academic year. Vice-Chancellor Manali Kshirsagar stated that exams will take place between 8 AM and 11 AM, addressing the discomfort caused by high temperatures, which often exceed 45 degrees Celsius in the region. To facilitate this change, the university plans to nearly double the number of examination centers, allowing all students to take exams in a single shift.
The decision follows numerous complaints from students and parents about the challenges of traveling in the heat and the lack of adequate facilities in examination halls. Kshirsagar admitted that some centers failed to provide proper amenities despite funding for arrangements. The administration is also working on improving infrastructure and coordination with colleges to ensure better seating and cooling arrangements. Additionally, efforts are underway to expedite the declaration of examination results and enhance quality checks in mark sheets, aiming for a smoother examination process in the future.
