Hampden-Sydney College is offering the ELITE Summer Bridge program from July 14-17, 2026, designed for high school students entering grades nine to twelve. This initiative specifically targets first-generation and underrepresented students, including those who are PELL-eligible and from diverse racial backgrounds. According to Desiree Nicholson, the dean of culture and community, the program aims to bridge the gap in college access by providing a real campus experience. Students will be fully funded for housing and meals, with no GPA or test score prerequisites, making it accessible to all eligible applicants. Nicholson highlights that many students have never visited a college campus or interacted with college graduates, which can hinder their aspirations. Through this four-day program, participants will engage with alumni, gain insights into college life, and develop a clearer understanding of their potential academic paths. The college has a legacy of producing successful men for 250 years, and the ELITE program embodies the belief that this legacy is attainable for every young man, regardless of his background.
