The Election Commission of India has announced that fresh polling will take place across all 285 polling stations in the Falta Assembly constituency, located in South 24 Parganas district, West Bengal. This decision stems from reports of significant electoral offences and disruptions during the second phase of polling held on April 29, 2026. The re-polling is set for May 21, from 7 am to 6 pm, with the counting of votes scheduled for May 24. The Commission's order highlighted the need for a complete re-poll to ensure a free and fair election, citing severe electoral violations that occurred during the previous voting. Tensions were high during the earlier polling, with clashes reported between supporters of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), both sides accusing each other of tampering with votes. This marks the second instance of re-polling in the ongoing West Bengal Assembly elections, following a similar decision for 15 polling stations in the Diamond Harbour and Magrahat Paschim constituencies.
