The Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC) has formally requested the party's central leadership to reconsider the list of 53 district presidents released on March 30 by K C Venugopal, citing a 'massive social imbalance.' The current list features 24 upper-caste representatives, including nine Brahmins and seven Bhumihars, while only including five from Scheduled Castes and three from Extremely Backward Classes (EBCs). The BPCC's push for revision aligns with its strategic goal to enhance representation for marginalized groups, particularly ahead of the 2025 Assembly elections. The party's presence in Bihar has notably diminished, dropping from 19 seats in the 2020 elections to just six seats in 2025, prompting calls for a restructuring to better reflect social diversity. BPCC president Rajesh Ram emphasized the need for amendments to ensure a fair representation that resonates with the social balance advocated by Rahul Gandhi during his recent engagements in the state. Additionally, the BPCC is conducting a membership drive and a talent hunt to attract new members and representatives, with over 8,900 participants already involved.
