To address increasing traffic congestion on Karve Road in Pune, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) plans to construct two new flyovers at Karve Statue Chowk and Ambedkar Chowk in Karvenagar, Maharashtra. This initiative is particularly important as the Pune Metro's spur line from SNDT to Manikbaug will pass through this area, limiting future road expansion opportunities. The long-pending flyover at Ambedkar Chowk, originally proposed by the state government in 2018, will be revived alongside a new flyover at Karve Statue Chowk. This development will result in a total of three flyovers along Karve Road, integrating with the elevated Metro route. To ensure a successful project, PMC will conduct a detailed technical and traffic assessment, including a week-long traffic survey and various impact studies. The planning will also include an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) to evaluate potential effects on the environment and local communities. The PMC emphasizes the need for these infrastructure upgrades to be completed before the Metro corridor becomes operational, as significant road interventions may not be feasible afterward.
