In Panchkula, Haryana, damaged road studs, commonly known as cat's eye reflectors, are becoming a serious safety hazard. These reflectors, designed to enhance visibility, are often found with missing covers and sharp iron nails exposed, which can puncture tires and increase accident risks. The issue has been raised by SK Nayar, president of the Citizens’ Welfare Association, who filed a complaint with the Haryana Human Rights Commission (HHRC). Nayar pointed out that many road safety features, including lane markings and signages, are either faded or missing, violating Indian Roads Congress (IRC) norms. Despite the HHRC's directives, residents report little improvement. Rajbir Singh, from the Panchkula Metropolitan Development Authority (PMDA), acknowledged the problem and assured that damaged studs would be replaced as part of upcoming road repairs. He noted that these studs are particularly vulnerable in high-traffic areas and mentioned planned installations of new signages to improve safety, particularly near educational institutions.
