The irrigation and flood control department of the Delhi government is set to construct a watchtower and lay stormwater pipelines in Central Ridge, New Delhi. The project, estimated to cost ₹2.05 crore (approximately $248,000 USD), aims to enhance vigilance in the area, which has faced environmental challenges such as encroachments. The watchtower will improve monitoring capabilities, while the stormwater infrastructure will help manage drainage and prevent waterlogging during monsoons. The project is expected to be completed within 180 days of commencement and includes various components such as excavation of drains, construction of reinforced cement concrete (RCC) structures, and installation of ductile iron pipelines. This initiative aligns with the Delhi government's ongoing efforts to improve green cover and infrastructure within the Ridge, which serves as a vital green space for the city. Additionally, a comprehensive 10-year working plan has been proposed to restore Delhi's forests, focusing on ecological connectivity and reducing human-wildlife conflict.
