In an effort to bolster cybersecurity, the Delhi government has released a set of comprehensive guidelines for its departments. These directives include conducting timely security audits and utilizing emails sanctioned by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) for official communications. The Information Technology department's circular stresses the critical nature of protecting IT infrastructure, warning that breaches could tarnish the government's reputation. Each department is required to designate an assistant chief information security officer (ACISO) as the single point of contact for cybersecurity matters. Additionally, employees are instructed to refrain from opening unknown links, properly shut down their machines at the end of the day, and ensure the use of NIC emails exclusively for official purposes. The guidelines also emphasize the importance of strong passwords and multifactor authentication (MFA) for accessing sensitive information. Departments must maintain an inventory of their IT infrastructure and regularly back up data. In case of cyber incidents, immediate reporting to designated contacts is required. This initiative affects over 60 departments under the Delhi government.
