On Tuesday, Delhi's Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inspected the Vasudev Ghat and Yamuna Bazar Ghat as part of ongoing efforts to rejuvenate the Yamuna River. The visit aimed to assess sanitation and infrastructure in preparation for the summer and monsoon seasons. Officials highlighted that the Vasudev Ghat, developed by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), serves as an eco-friendly public space, while further development is needed at the Yamuna Bazar Ghat. Sandhu emphasized the need for coordinated efforts among various agencies, including the Irrigation and Flood Control Department and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, to rejuvenate the entire floodplain stretch from Palla to Kalindi Kunj. Chief Minister Gupta reiterated the government's commitment to cleaning the Yamuna, with a substantial allocation of ₹22,236 crore—over 21% of the Green Budget for 2026-27—dedicated to sewage treatment and environmental initiatives. The officials also discussed ongoing projects focused on floodplain restoration, biodiversity enhancement, and the development of walking and cycling tracks, along with plans for plantation drives and the preservation of natural water channels.
