Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing an election rally in Katwa, Purba Bardhaman district, emphasized that the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) will be fast-tracked for Matua and Namasudra refugee communities if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wins the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections. He criticized the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) for failing to safeguard the rights of these communities and accused them of instilling fear among refugees. Modi stated that the CAA was designed to ensure citizenship for such communities and promised an expedited process upon BJP's victory. He also warned illegal immigrants to leave and mentioned that action would be taken against those aiding them. Furthermore, Modi highlighted the BJP's welfare promises, including a monthly allowance of ₹3,000 for women and job opportunities for youth. He pledged to implement the 7th Pay Commission for state employees and release a white paper on corruption involving TMC leaders. The elections are set to begin on April 23, with results announced on May 4.
