During the NCAA Final Four weekend, students from Indiana University (IU) Indianapolis are volunteering to help manage the influx of fans in downtown Indianapolis. Through a course titled “Hosting Mega Sporting Events,” over 20 students are gaining practical experience by serving as a street team, assisting visitors with directions and information. This hands-on involvement not only provides students with insights into the complexities of event planning but also aims to promote Indianapolis as a potential sports hub. Professor Geoffre Sherman, who teaches the course, emphasizes the importance of understanding the logistical challenges involved in hosting such large-scale events. The students' efforts are expected to continue as they assist fans outside Lucas Oil Stadium, contributing to the overall success of the tournament while showcasing the city on a national stage.
