On Saturday, farmers in Haryana, India, protested against newly introduced procurement rules for mustard and wheat, blocking highways and toll plazas for four hours. Organized under the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), the farmers expressed concerns about the online procurement portal and the new regulations that restrict crop sales to registered farmers only. They highlighted issues such as mandatory vehicle registration for transporting crops and the rejection of crops due to moisture content exceeding prescribed limits. Protests were reported in multiple districts, including Rohtak, Hisar, and Kurukshetra, leading to significant traffic disruptions. Farmer leaders warned that if the government does not address their grievances, they will escalate their agitation. The All India Kisan Sabha criticized the new rules, asserting they would force farmers to sell their crops outside the designated markets, despite government claims of purchasing all crops at Minimum Support Price (MSP).
