In a recent letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mallikarjun Kharge, the Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha, reiterated the demand for an all-party meeting to discuss the delimitation linked to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, 2023. This law, which aims to reserve seats for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, was passed unanimously in September 2023 but has yet to be implemented. Kharge expressed concern over the government's lack of transparency regarding the delimitation process, which he believes is crucial for meaningful discussions on the law. He criticized the timing of the special Parliament session, suggesting it is politically motivated, particularly with upcoming elections in various states, including West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. The Congress party is preparing to meet with opposition leaders to formulate a joint strategy for the special session scheduled from April 16 to 18, 2026. Kharge emphasized the importance of including all political voices in discussions that will impact both the Centre and the states, asserting that the government should convene an all-party meeting after the elections to ensure democratic participation.
