Fresh snowfall has transformed the upper reaches of Himachal Pradesh and areas along the Jammu and Kashmir border after two days of continuous rain. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had predicted two successive western disturbances affecting northwest India, with peak activity around April 3–4. Following the snowfall, temperatures have dropped significantly, particularly in Bhalesa, Jammu and Kashmir, where dense fog has intensified the cold. Residents are resorting to traditional heating methods like bukharis and kangris. In Doda district, Deputy Commissioner Krishan Lal urged residents to avoid rivers and drains due to flooding risks and announced school closures as a precaution. The snowfall has disrupted essential services, blocking roads due to landslides and heavy snow accumulation. The Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) has been closed, affecting traffic and air travel, with several flights from Srinagar Airport being suspended or canceled.
