In a coordinated operation, officials from the agriculture department and police raided an illegal fertilizer manufacturing unit named 'Rafa Biotech' in Jagraon, Ludhiana district, Punjab, India. The unit, run by Manoj Kumar, was found to be producing fertilizers without the necessary licenses. During the inspection, authorities seized a substantial quantity of zinc sulphate (33%) and manganese sulphate, which were packaged under various brand names, including some reputed ones. Kumar was arrested after failing to provide any documentation for the manufacturing or sale of fertilizers. An FIR has been registered against him under multiple sections of the Fertilizer (Control) Order, 1985, and the Essential Commodities Act, 1955, among others. Investigating officer ASI Gurjit Singh indicated that further information is anticipated from Kumar during questioning.
