On Tuesday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched its manifesto for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, promising various welfare measures aimed at women, farmers, and households. Union Minister JP Nadda, who unveiled the manifesto on Tamil New Year, emphasized a fresh start for the state. Key proposals include a monthly allowance of ₹2,000 for women heads of families and a one-time assistance of ₹10,000 to each household. Additionally, the BJP pledged to provide three free LPG cylinders annually, coinciding with major festivals like Pongal, Diwali, and Tamil New Year, to help alleviate household expenses. For farmers, the manifesto introduces the Uzhave Thai scheme, which enhances the existing PM-Kisan support by providing an additional ₹3,000, totaling ₹9,000 in annual assistance.
The BJP's manifesto also addresses law and order, proposing zero-FIR reporting, victim protection, and fast-track courts for serious crimes against women. Furthermore, it aims to combat drug trafficking through the establishment of a Tamil Nadu Drug Eradication Department. In a pointed attack against the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), Nadda accused the party of failing to deliver on its promises and highlighted the increase in crimes under its governance. The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections are scheduled for April 23, with vote counting on May 4.
