An economic analysis indicates that such a change could compel Amazon to move its 10 distribution centers out of the city to nearby regions like New Jersey and Long Island, resulting in slower and more expensive deliveries. Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel expressed concerns that the bill would undermine the company's commitment to providing fast and affordable delivery while jeopardizing the jobs of over 5,000 employees working for its subcontractors. The bill has garnered support from the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, which seeks to organize Amazon workers.
