On Thursday, Pune experienced intense, unseasonal rainfall that resulted in severe waterlogging at the Swargate state transport (ST) stand, a major transit hub in the city. The heavy downpour caused rainwater to accumulate rapidly, turning the terminal into a pool and forcing commuters to wade through knee-deep water. This situation highlighted persistent drainage issues, as the inadequate outflow systems failed to manage the water effectively. Passengers expressed frustration over the lack of preparedness and delayed infrastructure upgrades, which have been proposed multiple times over the years. The stagnant water, mixed with sludge, created hazardous conditions, particularly for vulnerable groups such as the elderly and children. Arun Siya, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) Pune divisional controller, acknowledged the issue and noted that the drainage system falls under the jurisdiction of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Despite efforts to assist passengers, the blockage in the main sewage line exacerbated the water accumulation, leaving the depot submerged for an extended period.
