Iranian state media has asserted that its air defense systems successfully shot down a US A-10 Warthog aircraft near the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global oil shipments. The incident, which is part of the ongoing US-Israel-Iran conflict, reportedly resulted in the aircraft crashing into the Persian Gulf. Iranian outlets have circulated a video they claim shows the moment of the aircraft's destruction; however, the authenticity of this footage has not been independently confirmed. In addition to the A-10, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has claimed that other US warplanes, including an F-35 stealth fighter jet, were also targeted during the ongoing hostilities. The US government has yet to provide any official confirmation regarding the incident. The A-10 Thunderbolt II, commonly known as the A-10 Warthog, is designed for close air support missions and is known for its durability and cost-effectiveness, with an estimated cost of $18.8 million per aircraft today.
