Slovakia's Prime Minister Robert Fico has urged the European Union to reconsider its sanctions on Russian oil and gas imports, arguing that it is necessary to mitigate the energy crisis caused by the ongoing war in Iran. Following a conversation with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Fico emphasized the importance of renewing dialogue with Russia to secure energy supplies. The energy crisis has been intensified by rising oil prices, which have surged since the US and Israel initiated their military actions in Iran on February 28. In a related development, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced plans for increased security cooperation with Turkey after meeting with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Istanbul. Zelenskyy highlighted the potential for Ukraine to share its wartime expertise with Turkey. Meanwhile, US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are expected to visit Kyiv in April to discuss reviving stalled peace talks with Russia. On the ground in Ukraine, a recent Russian drone strike in Nikopol, located in the Dnipropetrovsk region, resulted in the deaths of five individuals and injuries to 25 others. The Ukrainian air force reported that it intercepted 260 out of 286 drones launched by Russia overnight, while strikes in Sumy and Kyiv also caused injuries and property damage. In occupied Luhansk, Ukrainian forces reportedly targeted railroad infrastructure, resulting in civilian casualties.
