On Friday, Shreenath Bhimale, chairman of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) standing committee, announced the formation of a revenue committee aimed at addressing the ongoing discrepancy between projected and actual revenue collections. Bhimale highlighted that despite consistent budget presentations over the years, there remains a significant gap between estimated income and what is actually collected. To tackle this issue, the newly formed committee will include the standing committee chairman and senior civic officials, such as the additional municipal commissioner. The committee is set to conduct weekly reviews of revenue to enhance financial oversight. This decision comes amid disputes between elected representatives and the civic administration regarding the need for parallel revenue oversight mechanisms, as another committee led by the municipal commissioner already exists. Following objections from elected members about the necessity of a separate panel, a previous agreement was made to review the situation, but a final decision is still pending due to the transfer of the additional commissioner.
