On Monday, thousands of workers in Palwal and Faridabad, Haryana, staged protests demanding the implementation of a minimum wage hike announced by the state government. Approximately 7,500 workers participated, with significant unrest reported in Palwal where 3,200 workers blocked the Agra-Delhi highway for nearly two hours. The Haryana government had recently approved a 35% wage increase, effective April 1, 2026, but many workers claimed that factory managements had not issued any notifications regarding this change. The protests were fueled by frustration over the lack of communication from management, with workers from two major factories in Faridabad and Prithla leading the demonstrations. Labour officials assured workers that they would receive the increased wages as per the new structure, which raises unskilled workers' wages from ₹11,274.60 to ₹15,220. The deputy labour commissioner indicated that measures would be taken to improve communication and prevent future unrest, including deploying inspectors at factories during salary disbursement.
