Following violent protests in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, the state government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has approved an increase in minimum wages across various categories. Unskilled workers in the Noida-Ghaziabad region will now earn ₹13,690 (approximately $165 USD) per month, while semi-skilled and skilled workers will receive ₹15,059 (approximately $182 USD) and ₹16,868 (approximately $205 USD) respectively. For other municipal areas, unskilled workers will earn ₹13,006, semi-skilled workers ₹14,306, and skilled workers ₹16,025. In the remaining districts, the wages are set at ₹12,356 for unskilled, ₹13,591 for semi-skilled, and ₹15,224 for skilled workers. The protests erupted over demands for higher wages, similar to recent wage amendments in Haryana, and escalated into violence, including the torching of vehicles and vandalism in several sectors of Noida. This unrest significantly disrupted traffic, stranding thousands of commuters on their way to Delhi during the morning rush hour.
