The National Students Union of India (NSUI) has raised concerns regarding significant academic delays at Ranchi University (RU) in Jharkhand, India. On Wednesday, NSUI state president Vinay Oraon led a delegation to submit a memorandum to Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar, outlining several urgent demands. These include the appointment of a regular vice chancellor, regularization of academic sessions, correction of errors in degree certificates, an inquiry into missing answer sheets, and the timely conduct of student body elections, which have not taken place since 2019. Oraon highlighted that two semesters of examinations are pending for the 2022-26 academic session, while only one semester has been conducted for the 2024-28 batch. He noted that students are being deprived of their democratic rights due to the postponement of elections. Additionally, the university has not conducted an entrance test for the PhD program for the 2024 batch, despite having collected examination fees. Oraon warned that the NSUI would initiate a ‘Mahadharna’ protest starting April 13 if their demands are not addressed within four days, indicating a strong mobilization of students across the state.
