The Punjab and Haryana High Court has taken a firm stance against frivolous litigation by imposing a cost of ₹3 lakh on M/S V K Constructions, which filed a contempt petition regarding unpaid bills for work on the Rohtak-Bawal national highway project. The court noted that this petition was the second contempt action taken by the firm, despite a previous ruling in February 2023 that directed officials to resolve the billing issue within three months. The court found that the officials had complied with their duties, and the petition constituted a gross abuse of the judicial process. Justice Sudeepti Sharma emphasized the necessity of imposing costs on both government officials for genuine disobedience and on private litigants who misuse the legal system. This ruling aims to deter similar vexatious claims that waste judicial resources and harass public officials, reinforcing the court's commitment to maintaining the integrity of judicial proceedings.
