The Uttar Pradesh cabinet has approved a significant initiative to develop 49 bus stations through the public-private partnership (PPP) model, as announced by UP transport minister Dayashankar Singh. This project aims to enhance passenger amenities and transform these stations into economic hubs featuring shopping complexes and cinema halls. The development will follow the Design, Build, Finance, Operate, Transfer (DBFOT) model, allowing private investors to bring in both capital and operational expertise. To attract private investment, the government has simplified eligibility norms, reducing the technical capacity requirement from 150% to 100% and extending the project eligibility period from five to eight years. The new bus stations will be constructed on free land provided by the government in Narora (Bulandshahr district), Tulsipur (Balrampur district), and Sikandrarao (Hathras district). This redevelopment is expected to improve passenger convenience, increase UPSRTC revenues through commercial activities, and generate direct and indirect employment opportunities in these areas.
