India has expressed its support for the two-week ceasefire between Iran and the United States, brokered by Pakistan with Chinese backing. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal emphasized the need for de-escalation and dialogue to resolve the ongoing conflict, which has severely disrupted global energy supplies and trade networks, particularly affecting India's oil imports through the Strait of Hormuz. Jaiswal stated that India hopes this ceasefire will also encourage peace efforts in Ukraine. The conflict has caused immense suffering and raised concerns about the safety of Indian nationals in West Asia, prompting the Indian government to facilitate their exit from Iran. As of now, around 7,500 Indian nationals remain in Iran, with 1,864 having already exited through Armenia and Azerbaijan. The Indian government continues to monitor the situation closely, engaging with Iran and other stakeholders to ensure safe passage for Indian-flagged vessels in the region.
