On Sunday, 159 candidates were arrested in Jharkhand during the Jharkhand Excise Constable Competitive Examination (JECCE) 2023 amid allegations of a paper leak. The Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) revealed that candidates were provided with four sets of question papers, which did not match the actual exam questions. A senior official stated that the main accused, part of a gang involved in examination irregularities, had previously been implicated in multiple paper leak cases across India, including the Rajasthan clerk recruitment exam and NEET. The gang reportedly charged candidates between ₹10 to 15 lakh (approximately $12,000 to $18,000 USD) for access to the exam questions. Following these arrests, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) staged protests against Chief Minister Hemant Soren, accusing the state government of jeopardizing the future of the youth and demanding a fresh examination.
