Mumbai’s RailOne ticketing app, intended to eliminate ticketless travel on local trains, has a significant flaw that allows passengers to purchase tickets while on a moving train, undermining its purpose. Central Railway (CR) identified this issue during a ticket-checking drive on a Kalyan-bound AC local and has alerted the app's developer, the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), for an urgent resolution. This glitch exacerbates the problem of overcrowding, particularly on AC locals, which already face delays of 10–15 minutes daily due to high passenger volumes. Commuter groups have criticized the current punctuality metrics, which count trains delayed by up to five minutes as “on time,” masking the true extent of service disruptions. With infrastructure projects aimed at reducing congestion projected to take two to four years for completion, commuters are left to navigate an increasingly frustrating travel experience.
