He attributed this optimism to a significant anti-incumbency mood among voters, which he observed during his campaign across 59 constituencies in Kerala. Tharoor noted that the public's dissatisfaction stems from the current government's performance, particularly highlighting delays in project completions, where many initiatives took ten years instead of the promised five years. He also pointed out the challenges faced by non-resident Indians (NRIs) in voting, emphasizing that local voters are crucial for the election outcome. Tharoor dismissed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as a negligible force in the elections, stating that the real competition lies between the UDF and the incumbent Left Democratic Front (LDF), which has governed the state for nearly a decade. The elections are set for April 9, 2026, with counting on May 4.
