India's Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that there have been no discussions with Iran about imposing tolls on Indian-operated vessels. This clarification comes as the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial global energy corridor, experiences a 94% decline in vessel traffic due to increased restrictions from Iran. The current situation escalated after air strikes by the United States and Israel on Iranian targets, prompting Iran to tighten control over the Strait. Under a new screening process, ships must now navigate closer to Iran's coastline near Larak Island and coordinate with intermediaries approved by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. However, evidence of widespread toll payments is lacking, with only two out of 63 vessels confirmed to have paid any fees. Meanwhile, India has successfully evacuated over 1,200 citizens, including 845 students, from Iran, with the Iranian embassy assuring the safety of Indian nationals.
