Nithin Raj RL, a 22-year-old first-year Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) student at Kannur Dental College in Anjarakandy, Kerala, died on April 10 after falling from a building, in what is suspected to be a suicide. His family alleges that Raj was subjected to emotional harassment by faculty members, including derogatory remarks about his caste and appearance. Following the incident, the Chakkarakkal police registered a case of unnatural death and have begun an investigation, collecting digital evidence and statements from classmates and college authorities. Two faculty members, MK Ram and KT Sangeetha Nambiar, have been suspended as part of the college's internal inquiry. Raj's father, Rajan, stated that his son faced threats regarding academic repercussions and was called derogatory names in front of peers. The Kerala State Human Rights Commission has mandated a thorough investigation and expects a report within a week. Raj's body was returned to his family in Thiruvananthapuram for cremation.
