The Delhi government has introduced a draft electric vehicle (EV) policy requiring schools to transition their bus fleets to electric vehicles. Under this policy, schools must ensure that 10% of their buses are electric within two years, increasing to 20% by the end of the third year, and 30% by March 31, 2030. This mandate applies to all types of school buses, including those that are leased, owned, or hired. The education department will be responsible for enforcing compliance, integrating these requirements into school recognition processes, and coordinating with the transport department. Additionally, the draft policy emphasizes the need for awareness campaigns to educate students and staff about air pollution and its health impacts. The policy, which began in August 2020, aims to combat vehicular pollution in Delhi. Public feedback on the draft is being solicited for the next 30 days.
