In response to significant crop damage caused by unseasonal rain and hailstorms, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has ordered a comprehensive assessment known as girdawari across the state. This initiative aims to ensure that affected farmers receive compensation based on the findings from local deputy commissioners. The CM emphasized the government's commitment to safeguarding farmers' interests, particularly in districts like Amritsar, Bathinda, Muktsar, Hoshiarpur, Tarn Taran, and Fatehgarh Sahib. Currently, the state agriculture department is conducting surveys to identify the extent of the damage, which has delayed crop harvest and procurement processes that began on April 1. Additionally, Mann presented a report on the power sector's turnaround under the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, noting that it has shifted from losses to profits while providing free electricity to 90% of households. He highlighted that farmers now receive more than eight hours of power supply during the paddy season and that irrigation reforms have improved water supply capacities. The CM also addressed law and order, stating that the Punjab Police is being upgraded to combat cybercrime and drug-related offenses.
