The Delhi government has taken a significant step towards improving infrastructure in the city by submitting layout plans for 21 of its 27 non-conforming industrial areas to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). Non-conforming areas are those where industrial activities occur outside designated zones, leading to inadequate infrastructure such as roads and drainage systems. The remaining six layout plans are expected to be submitted by the end of the month. This initiative follows a policy push to address infrastructure gaps that have persisted due to the organic growth of these industrial clusters without adherence to zoning regulations. The government has also approved a scheme that provides financial support, offering up to 90% subsidy for industrial associations to prepare redevelopment plans. With these plans, the process of regularizing infrastructure development can commence, addressing challenges like sanitation and traffic congestion. Additionally, a dedicated budget has been allocated for essential civic amenities, aiming to integrate these industrial areas into the formal urban framework.
