Ahead of the civic polls in Vadodara, Gujarat, Rajendra Barot, the Congress candidate for Ward 15, was disqualified when his name was found missing from the electoral rolls. Despite being registered as a voter in the Vadodara City constituency, Barot's name did not appear in the revised list published on April 1, following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. Barot claims he submitted an application for inclusion, which was not processed. In response, the Congress party has accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of deliberately withholding the electoral list to undermine their candidate. With Barot out of the race, Hitesh Machhi, a former BJP member, has stepped in as the official candidate. Election officials clarified that individuals must apply for their names to be included in local electoral rolls, even if they are registered for assembly elections. This situation raises concerns about voter participation, as many voters may find their names missing from the local electoral rolls.
