Voting for the assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry concluded on Thursday, attracting a high turnout of voters. Assam saw a polling percentage of 84.42%, Kerala 75.01%, and Puducherry 86.92%. The elections were held for 126 seats in Assam, 140 in Kerala, and 30 in Puducherry, with results expected on May 4. In Kerala, over 2.6 crore electors participated, with 883 candidates contesting across the constituencies. The ruling United Democratic Front (UDF) aims to unseat the Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF), which has been in power for a decade. In Assam, more than 2.5 crore voters were eligible to vote, while Puducherry had 10,14,070 eligible voters. Political tensions were evident, particularly in Assam, where the contest is primarily between the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the Congress-led alliance. The elections reflect significant political dynamics in these regions as major parties vie for control.
