Kishori Pednekar, a prominent member of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena faction, has officially withdrawn a proposal to include the Manache Shlok, a 205-verse composition by Samarth Ramdas Swami, in the curriculum of schools run by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). This decision followed objections from the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) party, whose leader, Vijay Ubale, argued that schools should focus on teaching values rooted in the Constitution rather than any specific religious texts. Pednekar's initial proposal aimed to instill moral values among students, but her remarks linking the text to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar sparked significant backlash. In response to the criticism, she expressed regret and clarified that her intention was to promote understanding of constitutional duties across all communities, not to imply that the Manache Shlok belonged solely to Hinduism. Following the controversy, she apologized for any offense caused and committed to avoiding similar connections in the future.
