The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has launched a control room to address the risk of crop fires during the dry harvest season in Punjab, India. Chief engineer Jagdev Singh Hans highlighted that even minor sparks from overhead conductors or transformers could ignite dry crops, leading to significant losses. To mitigate this risk, PSPCL has integrated the control room with all field divisions and has put teams on high alert. Farmers are encouraged to report electrical faults immediately using helpline numbers or WhatsApp, allowing for a swift response. Additionally, PSPCL has issued detailed safety advisories, urging farmers not to store harvested wheat near electrical installations and to maintain a safe distance from transformers. Farmers are also advised to operate combine harvesters only during the day to further reduce fire risks.
