In an interview with Esquire India, he discussed how alcohol, which he initially viewed as a support, began to strain his relationships and affect his health. Deol noted, “For an actor, your body and your face are the commodities that you’re selling. I cannot afford to mess with that.” He reflected on how he has not felt the urge to drink during significant occasions, stating, “Two birthdays and two New Year’s have passed, and I haven’t felt the urge.” Deol, the younger son of actor Dharmendra, made his debut in 1995 with the hit film *Barsaat* and enjoyed early success with films like *Gupt* and *Soldier*. However, his career faced challenges in the late 1990s.
