Ukraine is increasingly relying on unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) as it continues to combat Russia's invasion, which has now entered its fifth year. These versatile robots, used for logistics and combat, have transformed the battlefield, with Ukraine's lieutenant Victor Pavlov stating that modern warfare necessitates the use of robotic systems. Since spring 2024, the deployment of UGVs has surged, with operations reaching a record 7,000 in January. These robots are capable of delivering supplies, evacuating wounded soldiers, and performing engineering tasks, thus reducing the risk to human soldiers in high-risk areas. The Ukrainian military has developed a unique ecosystem for UGV technology, where engineers and frontline soldiers collaborate to enhance capabilities. Notably, these robots have accounted for 90% of logistics operations and have even been involved in combat scenarios, leading to the unprecedented surrender of Russian soldiers to a UGV. As the conflict continues, Ukraine's defense minister, Mykhailo Fedorov, emphasized the critical role of these robotic systems in sustaining military operations and minimizing casualties.
