On Saturday, Manipur Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh, along with eight MLAs from the Meitei community, traveled to Jiribam district for a three-day visit aimed at fostering peace and trust among communities. The delegation, which includes state BJP president A Sharda and several other MLAs, will inspect various developmental projects and engage with Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) affected by recent violence between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities. Since the outbreak of violence on May 3, 2023, movement on key routes, particularly the state's two major National Highways, has been severely restricted, with many from the Meitei community avoiding these roads due to safety concerns. Jiribam, located approximately 217 km from Imphal and bordering Assam's Cachar district, is home to a mix of communities. This marks Singh's second visit to the district since assuming the role of chief minister in February 2023, having previously visited by helicopter to meet with IDPs from both communities.
