As India pushes for energy self-reliance through its Viksit Bharat vision, ethanol blending is becoming increasingly important. Sudarshan Venu, CMD of TVS Motor Company, highlighted the tangible benefits of the ethanol program, which has saved the country ₹1.36 lakh crore (about $16.4 billion USD) in foreign exchange and directed ₹1.18 lakh crore (approximately $14.2 billion USD) to farmers, while reducing 69.8 million tonnes of CO2 emissions. With the successful implementation of E20 blending, TVS is preparing to roll out ethanol-powered vehicles in phases, focusing on higher blends like E25. Venu emphasized that ethanol and electric vehicles (EVs) are complementary technologies, with ethanol providing a more cost-effective and scalable transition pathway suited to India's current ecosystem. He noted that two- and three-wheelers present the largest opportunity for ethanol adoption, given their scale in the Indian market. TVS has been proactive in this space, having introduced an ethanol-powered motorcycle in 2019 and showcasing flex-fuel platforms. The company is committed to supporting government initiatives and is ready for the rising blending levels.
