Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is scheduled to visit Ludhiana later this month to review the ongoing clean-up efforts of the Buddha Nullah river. Rajya Sabha MP Balbir Singh Seechewal highlighted that while there has been some improvement in water quality, significant pollution challenges remain. He pointed out the continued discharge of waste from dairy complexes in Tajpur and Haibowal, despite the closure of 79 dairies planned for 2025. The MP raised concerns about municipal sewage and treated industrial effluent not meeting standards, with Ludhiana generating approximately 650 million litres per day (MLD) of wastewater against a treatment capacity of nearly 800 MLD. He noted that the inflow to the treatment plant has improved from around 100 MLD to 213–220 MLD after connecting drains, which is a positive development. Additionally, Seechewal proposed an 89-km paved road along the Dhussi Bund of the Sutlej River, estimated at ₹117 crore (roughly $14 million USD), aimed at enhancing flood protection and connectivity, urging the government to advance this proposal discussed in June 2023.
