Kristin Eschenfelder, currently serving as the academic associate dean and associate director for the School of Computer, Data & Information Sciences, has been appointed as the interim dean of the College of Letters & Science at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, effective May 17, 2026. This appointment coincides with Dean Eric M. Wilcots's term as interim chancellor. Eschenfelder has been part of the UW–Madison faculty since 2000 and has played a significant role in developing the School of Computer, Data & Information Sciences since its inception in 2019. Her leadership experience includes securing a $5 million endowment and overseeing major departmental relocations. Eschenfelder expressed her eagerness to lead the college during this critical time, focusing on advancing the strategic vision of campus leaders and enhancing student support. Her research interests lie at the intersection of technology, law, and society, emphasizing information access and rights management. Provost John Zumbrunnen noted that her extensive experience will be invaluable to the college as it navigates upcoming challenges.
