The number of employment tribunal cases in Great Britain related to remote working has seen a 13% decline in 2025, with only 54 cases decided across England, Scotland, and Wales. This marks the first decrease in six years after a tenfold rise since 2019. The shift is attributed to a tightening labor market, with the unemployment rate reaching 5.2%, prompting workers to remain in their roles rather than challenge return-to-office policies. Many companies, particularly in the financial sector, are increasing their office attendance requirements, which may lead to further tribunal cases in the future. Additionally, the introduction of the right to request flexible working from the start of employment in April 2024 may encourage employees to resolve conflicts internally rather than through tribunals. However, a significant backlog of over 500,000 open cases means that workers may face long waits of up to three years for their claims to be heard.
