The Tata Group, based in Kolkata, India, has announced a fresh investment of ₹1,500 crore (approximately $180 million USD) into Tata Electronics, its iPhone contract manufacturing division. This investment is part of a broader strategy to scale up operations in the electronics sector, particularly in smartphone assembly for Apple. The company has also increased its authorized share capital from ₹3,500 crore to ₹6,250 crore, indicating further financial commitment to its Pegatron Technology India unit, where it holds a 60% stake. In the fiscal year 2026, Tata Electronics reported a significant rise in consolidated operating income to ₹66,206 crore from ₹3,752 crore in FY25, while its net loss decreased to ₹69 crore from ₹825 crore the previous year. Analysts suggest that this ongoing capital infusion signals strong backing for Tata Electronics as it positions itself as a leading iPhone manufacturer in India, alongside Taiwanese firm Foxconn. Additionally, Tata Electronics is venturing into semiconductor production, with plans for a $14 billion investment in a fabrication facility in Gujarat and a chip assembly unit in Assam.
